When you were little, where did you live? Did you live in an apartment or did you live in a big house where you also had, for example, a big garden? Because this way, when I ask people who are maybe sixty years old or more, most of them just lived in the village or somewhere where they had a really big house. And I\’m not surprised, because it used to be like that. It used to be that houses were more likely to be inherited, or maybe if someone had a wedding, they would move to where the big house was. So one parent\’s house. And either the bride\’s parents or the groom\’s parents. To confess, my grandmother also married my grandfather and then they went to live at their family home.
It was a really big house, more like a farmhouse, where there was also a really big garden. My grandmother also lived in the village where they also had a really big garden, but she was so extremely poor that she couldn\’t afford anything either. That\’s why I\’m glad that nowadays people who don\’t have a lot of money can afford a house with a garden. And besides, I can\’t even imagine that there is a house that doesn\’t have a garden at all.
I suppose people who have a house also take care of a garden, although I also know some people who own a big house and have a beautiful garden. I mean, it would be a beautiful garden if they took care of it, because there are also many cases where people have a garden, and they have completely trampled on it and wanted to have it, but then they stopped taking care of it. Maybe they don\’t mow the grass at all and things like that. Or they don\’t even rake the leaves and do all sorts of stupid things, and then the garden is so busy and ruined that it can\’t even be put back together. If I had a garden, I\’d take good care of it and sunbathe there in the summer.
