The question of home gymsPeople

have inventedthings so well and made them so small that we can all get them at home and avoid using them in public places. It may not immediately spring to mind, but I\’m talking about computers, printers and other commonplace parts of our lives.

If someone is into sports, and especially if they\’re just starting out, wouldn\’t they also be more comfortable if they could work out from the comfort of their own home so they didn\’t have to brave the cold or the sleet?

Of course, many sports are clearly outdoors and you just can\’t do them indoors, or get the equipment to make them look like indoors in the house (like a 50 meter pool, or a climbing wall). However, for example, cycling, running, or (especially) weight training have their indoor form and are not at all difficult to get indoors – note that I say difficult, not cheap. It\’s a question of whether years of hard work are more worth paying for a gym membership or owning some of that equipment. In this matter, a lot depends on whether you go there for one machine (treadmill, exercise bike) or you rotate through 20 machines in your visit. If you were to get them all at home, you\’d be going crazy and going into serious debt, but you don\’t necessarily need machines to work out, which can be to your advantage.

If you learn to work out in a different way, with only your own body weight, then you will only need a few pieces of equipment and you will easily achieve the same load and the same results as you do in the gym.

The other side of the coin is whether you will force yourself to work out when you can actually work out anytime. When you go to the gym you may not feel like it, but you are also limited by a lot of things like gym opening hours, possible transport links, etc., but once you\’re on the road, which you have to fix in your daily schedule because of its “difficulty”, there\’s no turning back, but when you\’re at home, you can subtly postpone working out all day until you don\’t get to it at all, just because you can\’t start until you finish this and that…
